Signs Your Water Main Needs Replacing

Repairs can only go so far. If your water service line is showing multiple warning signs, full replacement is often more cost-effective than repeated patching.

Spiking Water Bill

A sudden or steady increase with no usage change is a strong sign of a hidden main line leak.

Low Whole-Home Pressure

Reduced pressure at every fixture — not just one tap — points to a main line issue, not a local plumbing problem.

Soggy Yard Patches

Unexplained wet spots, sinkholes, or unusually green patches in your yard signal an underground water main leak.

Discolored Water

Rusty or brown water from multiple taps means internal pipe corrosion — common in aging galvanized or older copper lines.

Aging Pipes

Galvanized steel mains from before the 1970s have a finite lifespan. Replacement before failure is always cheaper than emergency repair.

Repeated Repairs

If your water line has needed repair more than once in a few years, the pipe itself is telling you it's time for a full replacement.

How Water Main Replacement Works

Trenchless Pipe Bursting

Our preferred method when conditions allow. A bursting head pulls through the old pipe, fracturing it outward while simultaneously pulling new HDPE pipe into place. Minimal yard disturbance, same-day completion.

Traditional Open-Cut

For lines where trenchless isn't viable due to depth, access, or condition — we excavate cleanly, replace the full line with new material, and restore the site completely before we leave.

Replacement FAQ

Most residential water main replacements in Salt Lake and Utah County complete in one day. Longer runs or complex conditions may require a second day. We'll give you a clear timeline with your estimate.
With trenchless pipe bursting, yard disturbance is minimal — typically just two small access points. For open-cut jobs, we excavate the narrowest trench possible and fully restore the site before we leave.
In most Utah cities, the homeowner is responsible for the service line from the city meter to the home. The city owns the main in the street. We'll help you understand your responsibility and make the process as simple as possible.
Yes — we handle light commercial water main replacement in addition to residential. Call us to discuss your property size and we'll assess the scope and provide an estimate.
